The project comprises the modification and extension of existing Cell Culture and Bio Assay Laboratories incorporating floor, wall and ceiling finishes in a live operation facility. Casework and benchtops were modified and replaced as required including removal of redundant services and provision of new services. Existing bio-safety cabinets were removed and new units provides along with necessary modification to exhaust air system, increased room air supply, heating coils, CO2 pipework, sprinkler modifications, fire alarm, and a new FMS panel.

Overview

Taylors were commissioned to manage the design and procurement with construction support for the extension and upgrade of an existing Cell Culture and Bio Assay Laboratories.

Due to the complex nature of the works and proximity to a live operational facility the project was executed in two phases. The Bio-Tech Laboratory followed the completion of the Cell Culture Laboratory. The intervention work in the Cell Culture lab comprised forming new openings in block walls to form a dedicated store with floor, wall and ceiling finished upgraded. The ventilation system was completely reworked and casework and worktops changed out.

Works in the Bio Tech Lab comprised the complete replacement of a lay-in grid ceiling with plasterboard ceiling, and all finished to match the Cell Culture Laboratory.

CO2 piped services were provided for future connection. Also new bio-safety cabinets provided along with auto-change over damper to modulate exhaust airflow. Fire alarm, general power services and a new FMS panel were also provided.
