Due to the flourishing world-wide I.T. market, our client appointed the Taylor Group design team to project manage the design with support for site operations of a new state of the art facility at Castlebar, Co Mayo. Critical to the success of the project was to have a clear understanding of the project requirements from the offset in order to deliver on the clients instructions in a twelve month period from date of commissioning the design to operational readiness.

Overview

The clients’ brief was to provide a new state of the art standalone facility which facilitated an increase in manufacturing capability by 100% based on their existing facility which dated back to 1976, with further additional expansion capability, all within a twelve month time frame. The end solution was a complex which met the clients’ brief in respect of accommodation and programme that adequately promoted the clients standing nationally and internationally within the I.T. sector.

The new facility comprises warehousing, production floor, ISO7 cleanroom suite,     research & administration offices and training and technical service accommodation. The building has two main volumes, a large warehouse/production hall and two story office annex. The warehouse/production hall is a 60m double span volume with 5m clearance to underside of roof structure.

This was the largest project that our client funded in Ireland and required upfront clear definition of the projects requirements and accommodation schedule, client URS and site acquisition. Scaling up of production requirements and strategies along with technical knowledge and equipment transfer from existing premises which our client vacated, streamlined the information transfer and knowledge sharing along with our clients dedicated project team aided Taylors in achieving the principal project goal of handover within twelve months of receiving the commission.

The project was tendered to a select list of prequalified contractors capable of funding and resourcing the fast track nature of the project with an excellent health and safety record.

Taylors implemented a robust risk/change management process which aided to keep the project on track and to budget.
